July 3 – With the CONCACAF Gold Cup kicking off next Friday (July 7), BODYARMOR SuperDrink has signed up as the tournament’s hydration partner. The launch was given star power with the roll out of NBA superstar Kobe Bryant at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles.
Bryant and former US national team player Cobi Jones hosted a soccer clinic for local youth players at the launch. The Rose Bowl will host one of the Gold Cup semi-finals.
Bryant is a major shareholder in BODYARMOR which this year launched two new products.
The marketing campaign is the company’s first soccer sponsorship and is a short sharp burst for the tournament duration but aimed to reach as many football fans across the country as possible. No value was put on the sponsorship.
Mike Repole, co-founder and chairman, BODYARMOR, said: “BODYARMOR is a sports drink for the next generation of athletes and with more than 16 million youth soccer players in the US alone, we couldn’t be more excited to partner with the CONCACAF Gold Cup.”
BODYARMOR will have pitchside presence at all Gold Cup matches and will activate social media and in-store promotions.
“Growing up in Italy, soccer has always been a passion of mine and I’m thrilled that BODYARMOR is involved with this year’s Gold Cup,” said Kobe Bryant. “The Gold Cup is an intense and exciting tournament with some of the world’s best athletes participating – so it’s only fitting that BODYARMOR will be providing the players with the best hydration option.”
The 2017 Gold Cup will visit 14 stadiums in 13 cities, and kicks off July 7 at Red Bull Arena in the New York metropolitan area. The Final will be played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on July 26.
