April 30 – Ellis Short (pictured), US billionaire of former Premier League club Sunderland, is selling up and getting out of English football after a ten-year ownership spell that has seem him lose £250 million.
April 27 – In a move that has split public opinion across the nation, the most iconic venue in English football, the national stadium at Wembley, could be sold within weeks following a multi-millionaire pound bid by US billionaire Shahid Khan.
April 23 – LaLiga has released record revenue figures for 2016-17 showing the Spanish league generating €3.662 billion, a 15.6% increase of €495 million on the previous season. LaLiga is moving aggressively in international markets and domestically to build the value of its commercial rights, vocally targeting the Premier League and its dominant international position, particularly as regards broadcast revenue.

April 20 – Premier League clubs generated record operating profits of around £1 billion on aggregate revenues of £4.5 billion, according to Deloitte, in its latest piece of financial analysis on England’s top tier.

April 13 – Ledman Sports, a subsidiary of Ledman Electronics, from China has gained control over Brazilian club Nacional from Manaus for the next 20 years. The Chinese will take over the running of the club with a $1 million fee for the partnership being paid.
April 13 – Premier League Crystal Palace are edging towards a £100 million redevelopment of the main stand of the Selhurst Park stadium with local planning officers recommending the build should be allowed.

April 12 – Paris St-Germain are facing fresh accusations of failing to meet financial fair play (FFP) regulations with officials set to meet with UEFA in an effort to stave off being sanctioned again, according to reports.
April 10 – Controversial Spanish league boss Javier Tebas has again made claims Paris St Germain have broken the spirit of football law in terms of the money they acquire and spend.
April 9 – Having seemingly made peace with UEFA after being handed a voice on its executive committee, the body comprising Europe’s major leagues is back on the offensive by criticising UEFA’s distribution model for the 2018-21 cycle, saying it only increases the gap between the haves and have-nots.

April 9 – The near 20-fold increase in broadcasting revenue associated with the club’s brief return to the Premier League helped Middlesbrough rebound into profit for the year to 30 June 2017.
April 4 – English Premier League clubs paid agents a record £211 million in the past year, an increase of £37 million, latest figures reveal, rekindling the debate over whether they take too much money out of the game.
