November 12 – Manchester United continue to show the financial effects of their attempts to restore their dominance of the English club game, in spite of scoring a near 40% jump in first quarter revenues. A hike in costs, plus a financial hit on transfer dealings as manager Louis van Gaal and colleagues attempt to create a team worthy of the United brand, meant that pre-tax profits in the three months to September 30 were down 36% on a year earlier at £5.2 million.

October 30 – Lawyers acting on behalf of Eva Carneiro, the Chelsea team doctor who was verbally lambasted by manager Jose Mourinho and had her position downgraded, have served notice of a claim of constructive dismissal against the club after she failed to agree a severance package.

October 15 – Chelsea’s outspoken Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, increasingly under pressure after his team’s dismal start to the season by their own high standards, has been slapped with a suspended one-match stadium ban and fined £50,000 by the English Football Association for comments made about match officials.

Man City joins Premier League profits party with £10.4m showing

October 15 – Manchester City has emulated the bulk of its Premier League rivals by moving into profit – for the first time since the club’s takeover by Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2008. The club from the blue side of Manchester reported a pre-tax profit of £10.4 million for the year to end-May 2015.
