AUGUST 23 – THE Prime Minister (pictured) has been accused of scoring a “spectacular own goal” after he said in Beijing today that he would try to persuade Scotland and Wales to back plans for a united British football tournament to take part in the 2012 Olympics.
A GROUP of Scotland-linked MPs have backed the idea of a united British football team competing at the 2012 London Olympics.
THE Scottish Government have claimed that FIFA should investigate claims from a Westminster Minister that they would back a united British football team for London 2012, a move that could jeopardise the participation of the four Home Countries in the 2010 World Cup.

FIFA today gave the green light on for British football teams at the 2012 London Olympics, saying it would not have any effect on the individual status of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
THE Scottish and Welsh Governments have both said today that they remain fiercely opposed to the idea of a united British football team taking part in the London 2012 Olympics.
