February 21 – Belgian authorities have stepped up their investigation into corruption in the local game detaining former club coach Peter Maes (pictured) for a second and time and holding him overnight in jail. His arrest came following revelations by agent Dejan Veljkovic, who has reportedly opted for a plea bargain.

February 12 – Disgraced former Concacaf president and FIFA vice-president Jeffrey Webb’s sentencing has been delayed for a ninth time. His lawyers sentencing has now been moved back to September 10. Another defendant Alejandro Burzaco has had his sentencing moved back to August 21.
February 8 – Former Guatemalan FA chief Brayan Jimenez has been sentenced to time served and ordered to forfeit $350,000 after pleading guilty for his role in the FIFA corruption scandal.
February 6 – Jose Mourinho, arguably the game’s most successful coach for more than a decade but whose star has recently faded, was handed a one-year suspended sentence for tax fraud on Tuesday – but will not serve any time behind bars.
January 17 – The preventive detention of Sandro Rosell, the former Barcelona strongman who is accused of money laundering related to television rights and sponsorship of the Brazilian national football team, is the longest in Spanish judicial history for an alleged economic crime according to local reports.
January 15 – The trial of two men facing allegations related to the 1989 Hillsborough stadium tragedy got under way today including that of the officer in command of the match, now retired chief superintendent David Duckenfield, on a criminal charge of gross negligence manslaughter.
January 2 – FIFA has been hit with a Swiss Supreme Court ruling ordering it to pay $16.8 million plus interest in compensation to US-based ticket broker JB Sports Marketing (JBSM), for World Cup tickets it never received.

December 19 – The European Union, China and Canada all spoke out in support of Qatar’s case against Saudi Arabia at a World Trade Organisation (WTO) meeting today discussing the beoutQ piracy of broadcast programming. All three backed the contention that Qatar had the right to pursue protection of the intellectual copyright through the organisation.
September 7 – Former Guatemala football chief and one-time FIFA executive committee member Rafael Salguero avoided a jail term when he was sentenced on Thursday to time served, releasing him from house arrest following his role in the FifaGate corruption scandal.

November 19 – A Swiss federal prosecutor cleared of wrongdoing after being suspended amid questions about his conduct during investigations into suspected corruption surrounding FIFA will not be getting his job back.
November 14 – Eduardo Li, the former president of the Costa Rican Soccer Federation (FEDEFUTBOL) and one of the original ‘Zurich Seven’ arrested in the FifaGate corruption scandal, is now free to return to his homeland on so-called supervised release after serving nine months in prison and a period on parole.
