July 4 – World Champions the USA will open Concacaf W Championship 2022 in Monterrey, Mexico later today at the Estadio Universitario, against Haiti.
July 1 – Concacaf has announced the match officials selected to participate in the 2022 Concacaf W Championship.
The Estadio BBVA, nicknamed ‘El Gigante de Acero’(Spanish for ‘The Steel Giant), will host the final of the final of the Concacaf W Championship, the third place play-off, and six group games.
The stadium is the home fo LigaMX side C.F. Monterrey and earlier this month was confirmed as one of the host venues for the 2026 World Cup.
Capacity for the World Cup will be 53,600,
How they qualified
The Canadian’s women team automatically qualified for the Concacaf WChampionship after finishing as runners-up in 2018. They are Olympic champions from Tokyo and as one of the two highest ranked Concacaf teams – alongside the US – they were top seeded into group B, drawn with Costa Rica, Panama and Trinidad and Tobago.

How they qualified
The Reggae Girlz rose to prominence in 2019 when they qualified, unexpectedly, for the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France. Their pre-tournament campaign was put together late with a federation that refused to fund training camps, eventually prompting Reggae royalty Cedilla Marley to step in alongside a crowd funded campaign.

How they Qualified
Haiti stormed through their qualifying games scoring 44 times in four games and not conceding a single goal. Cuba and Honduras managed to keep the goals against down to six while St Vincent and the Grenadines and British Virgin Island shipped 11 and 21 goals respectively.

Panama topped their group winning all four games El Salvador, Belize, Barbados and Aruba without conceding a goal but scoring 24 of their own.

Opened in 1967, the 42,000 capacity Estadio Universitario – nicknamed El Volcán – is one of Mexico’s most storied stadiums.
The home of LigaMX side Tigres UNAL, it was given to Sinergia Deportiva, the for-profit company that administers Tigres, as part of the club’s assets.
The stadium hosted four matches at the 1986 World Cup and also hosted Coap Libertadores de America matches in 2005 and 2006 when Tigres played outside of its own confederation Concacaf in the Conmebol championship.
How they Qualified
Despite hosting the 2022 CONCACAF W Championships, Mexico still had to endure four qualifying matches on the road to competing in their own back yard. Three-hundred and sixty minutes later, and ‘La Tri’ had blitzed through everything and everyone that stood before them, scoring 34 goals and conceding a triumphant 0. They are soon set for a real challenge, though, as they face title holders and neighbours USA in their last group game on the 11th of July.
How the Qualified
Costa Rica cruised through qualifying winning all four games, scoring 22 goals and not conceding any. Saint Kitts and Nevis, Guatemala, Curacao and US Virgin Islands were all put away by five goals or more.

The US Womens’ national team, popularly branded ‘USWNT’, qualified automatically for this summer’s Concacaf W Championship, although their glittering reputation as the reigning World Champions would suggest they would’ve had very little difficulty securing their place in the group stages of a competition they are more than familiar with. They have been ranked the world’s number 1 team since 2018.

Trinidad topped their qualification group, two points ahead of Guyana who they drew with 2-2 in their final group game. Trinidad scored 19 goals in four games against Guyana, Nicaragua, Dominica and Turks and Caicos, condeding just three.
