September 14 – Just for a change it is the blue, rather than the red, side of Manchester that has kicked off the latest Premier League financial reporting season. A pity then that Manchester City’s newly-published 2017-18 results should be as solid and, well, unspectacular as much of the football played last year by Pep Guardiola’s record-breakers was irresistible and inspired.

September 13 – FIFA are to put a stop to elite clubs sending unlimited numbers of players out on loan, according to reports from Germany.

September 13 – France’s Ligue1 has announced India’s BKT as its title partner for its Coupe de la Ligue (League Cup) in a six-season deal taking the Indian tyre maker through to the end of the 2023/24 season.Announced at the draw for the round of 32 of the League Cup, the sponsorship begins with this season, as is estimated to be worth €3 million per season for the league.

September 13 – French World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris has been fined £50,000 and banned from driving for 20 months.
