January 29 – In a rare throwback to the dark days of English football hooliganism, an FA Cup match between fierce rivals West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers had to be suspended on Sunday after “dangerous and inexcusable” crowd trouble.
November 2 – Hungary and Mexico have been sanctioned by FIFA over persistent fan disorder at their World Cup qualification matches following the October international window.
October 26 – Saint-Étienne, one of France’s most iconic clubs but currently bottom of Ligue 1, have been ordered to play their home games behind closed doors until at least the middle of next month after protests from angry fans delayed the start of last Friday’s 2-2 draw with Angers by an hour.

October 19 – Big-spending Paris Saint-Germain, desperate to finally land the Champions League after years of trying, could face sanctions from UEFA after European football’s governing body announced it was opening an investigation into crowd trouble at the group match against Red Star Belgrade earlier this month.
August 23 – Coming just a day after the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service announced that it would not be prosecuting Hillsborough police chief Norman Bettison for his part and lies in the cover-up of the disaster, Sussex police have been found to be in breach of the Freedom of Information (FoI) act.
February 23 – A police officer has died of a heart attack following violent clashes between rival fans before Athletic Bilbao’s home Europa League match against Spartak Moscow on Thursday.
July 26 – Liverpool and Sevilla have both been punished relating to crowd trouble at last season’s Europa League final in Basel.
